We would like to know what you think! There is a LOT more info coming, including more pictures and videos to whet your appetite! In the meantime, please let us know what you're thinking about. We will probably do a few more surveys as we go. We really want to know what you think! This trip is for our kids, so we want to know what would work best for them, since you know them best! So please fill in this survey so we can get a better picture of things that may or may not work as we move forward with planning this program! Thank you!!!
How much will this cost, and why?
The costs for the program will depend in part on how many students will be attending. If there are 5 or less students enrolled in the program, the cost will be $6,000 per student. If there are more than 5 students enrolled, the cost could be a low as $5,500. Payments for the program will be due in September or October, and the final cost will be posted before those dates. The more students there are, the less the cost, AND the more fun we can have!
An important aspect of something this grand is the fact that quite a bit goes into it. Here is a break down of what your fees will be covering:
The items covered in the tuition is for the full 14 days of the program.
What is not included?
Welcome to our Week Without Walls page! We are incredibly excited to offer this amazing opportunity to the students of Tigris Academy!
What is Week Without Walls?
The idea is simple: Gather together a group of Middle school and high school students (ages 12-18) and have an intensive hands-on experience, immersing themselves in a cultural and educational experience. This is a unique opportunity to work with a group of their peers and leaders in situations that are far outside of the 'normal' educational experience. Students will travel to a designated country where they will engage in activities to experience economics, conservation, religious and cultural diversity, and advanced photography.
When I first heard of the program, I thought to myself, "Why would I do that when we already homeschool 'without walls'?" But as I thought about it, I realized what a huge benefit it would be for my older kids: they get to have an educational experience 'on their own' (not having to listen to mom's lectures all day), with kids their own age, AND in their same situation! The hope is not only that they get an amazing experience on their own, but that they can connect with other homeschoolers from around the world, make some good friends, and be empowered with a worldwide support network. What a wonderful opportunity to forge relationships and gain valuable knowledge and experience together.
As many of you know, this has been in the works for over a year. We've had a few starts and stops along the way, including some necessary date changes. We were planning to hold our program in August 2017. However, life sometimes happens! Due to many unforeseen circumstances, we've had to change to date. While this is unfortunate, we really believe the new dates will be even better! August is a difficult month, as that's when people are starting school, or perhaps you've just moved to a new country...or maybe you haven't even arrived yet! After pondering for awhile on a new date, it suddenly dawned: What month is the hardest month of the year? That month when the holidays are over, and yet there are still many months left until a summer break? February! We'll take advantage of the 'Winter Break' month and break up that last semester with an AMAZING adventure!
What is on offer this year?
Our Week Without Walls program for 2017-2018 will take place in Sri Lanka. What we will be doing:
We will be highlighting each activity AND location individually here on the blog as time goes on, adding more information to whet your appetite for learning and adventure!
